The start featured a clean get away from Polesitter Janne Tanskanen. Eventual race winner Joe Consiglio followed in 2nd with Jero Jansen and Adam Rouse in close attendance. As the field bunched up into turn 2, Phoenix driver Mark Fuller was hit from behind by Daniel Ortega, both were forced to retire. More incidents followed into turn 5 but overall it was a relatively clean start to the race.
